Move-to-earn platform STEP APP celebrates official launch in style with Usain Bolt at conference in Tokyo

TOKYO, 6 December 2022 - STEP APP, the pioneering FITFI (Fitness Finance) platform that transforms everyday exercise into social activities and competitions with the power to earn, has released its full app version at a special global launch celebration in Tokyo on 1 December, 2022.

Held at Ginza’s newest hotspot, Tokyo Raise, the event kicked off with the STEP APP CONFERENCE for a series of on-stage talk sessions under a theme of ‘The Future of Fitness,’ featuring Usain Bolt alongside Japanese baseball star Kazuto Taguchi, STEP APP executives and Dmitrijus Borisenka, co-founder of leading crypto payment processor Coingate.

S&E arranged media interviews with Usain Bolt and STEP APP spokespersons.

STEP APP is bringing lifestyle, fitness and play elements into a blockchain space that has, until now, been dominated by finance. To start running and earning, players purchase their own unique NFT sneaker (called a SNEAK) from the in-app marketplace, and can earn more by running and/or upgrading their SNEAK. There are two tokens in STEP App: FITFI, the governance token of STEP App which players use to buy SNEAKs and KCAL tokens earned by running, which can be used to upgrade SNEAKs or cash out.

After introducing the latest features and benefits packed into the full release that’s now available to download from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, Usain Bolt took to the stage to speak about how STEP APP fits with his ‘Road to Excellence.’

“I’ve always felt at my best mentally when I’m in good shape. I truly believe in the power of exercise so for me what STEP APP has built is inspirational,” said Bolt. “I’ve said in the past that we need to aspire to inspire, and through this new technology I would love to inspire as many people as possible to live a healthier and happier life. We are just getting started!”

The future of fitness. One step at a time.

The ‘Road to Excellence’ is also a metaphor for STEP APP’s own trailblazing approach toward expanding the blockchain economy beyond finance by incorporating lifestyle, fitness, and play elements into the space.

“Our goal is to use fitness and health as the bridge to connect the metaverse and the physical world,” explains Kirill Volgin, STEP APP’s CEO. “STEP APP is a move-to-earn app, powered by web3 technology and its native blockchain protocol called FITFI. By using geo-location, the platform turns your fitness into a social experience that rewards you in crypto tokens.”

“We believe that physical well-being translates into mental health too. We achieve this goal by incentivizing people with rewards for moving. This means STEP APP not only motivates you to move, it also unlocks financial freedom, with socialization and gamification aspects to keep you motivated and your fitness journey fun,” continues Volgin.

Tokyo the natural location for the global launch

“Japan is widely considered to be one of the biggest crypto markets in the entire world,” says Jan Van Decraen, STEP APP’s Chief Marketing Officer. “Throughout our STEP APP journey to-date, Japan users have consistently been at the forefront so Tokyo is the natural location to host our global launch. Out of all the beta downloads so far, Japan represents the second largest market and is in the top 3 markets across all website visits, pre-registrations and FITFI stakers.”

It’s also a crypto movement that celebrities here are proud to be a part of because of the social positive impact STEP APP is bringing about by incentivising fitness. Japanese baseball star Kazuto Taguchi said, “As a professional sports player, it's important to train hard and maintain your body properly. New technology has made great progress in the sport for professional athletes, but STEP APP is changing the game by bringing this to everyday exercise.”

Guests were then treated to exclusive giveaways, with the launch party stepping up a gear with Japanese hip-hop artist AK-69’s live performance. DJ Fehrplay, DJ Martin and DJ Usain Bolt then took to the turntables to keep the celebration going in style.

The live-streamed event featured performances from Japanese hip-hop star AK-69 and DJ’s, including Usain Bolt.
